Magic Q&A

This section of our site is aimed at answering common questions that people have about magic and tricks in general. If you have a question that you would like to add to this list please let us know. No specific trick secrets will be revealed but otherwise please feel free to submit any questions that you like.

Q. Which is best, card or coin magic?

This is quite a difficult question to answer. Really, it’s hard to say which one is better per se but they both have their strengths.

The main advantage of card magic is that magic with a deck of cards is amazingly versatile. This is why every magician loves to do tricks with cards. With a single deck you can do hundreds and hundreds of tricks. Another advantage of card magic is that it is fairly easy to get into. All the best magicians do card tricks including David Blaine and Chris Angel. Even Derren Brown started out doing card magic.

Now, coin magic has 2 immediate disadvantages. It is not as versatile as card magic and is generally a lot harder to get into and definitely much harder to master. It main advantage is however a good one – it can be done with borrowed objects, something which can seriously increase the strength and impact of a magic trick.

Of course, you can do card magic with other peoples deck of cards, but how many people do you know who regularly carry a deck of cards around with them? Not many. Coins on the otherhand are carried by virtually everybody all of the time.

Q. What are the hardest tricks to perform?

Weather a trick is hard to perform or not is obviously down to the performers skill level. However, that said there are some kinds of tricks that are a lot harder to perform than others. Such examples are coin magic involving a lot of complicated sleights, card magic involving hard sleights, long routines which need a lot of memorization, mentalism and mind magic tricks which rely heavily on the presentation. There are many more examples but from the list above you will get a general idea of the kinds of magic tricks we are referring to.
