Q. How do I become a professional magician?

This is something that aspiring magicians often think about - they want to know how to get paid for doing magic. Essentially that is what being a professional magician is - doing magic for a living and getting paid for it. The type of magic doesn’t make any difference. You could do street magic, mind magic, close up, bar magic, pub magic or even stage magic.

That is in fact the only difference between what we call an "amateur magician" and a professional magician. So, essentially, the answer to the question is you become a professional magician performing magic for a living. If you perform magic only part-time and have other jobs then you are generally regarded as a semi-pro magician.

I will take this opportunity to mention that people often make the assumption that a professional magician is better than an amateur magician. This is due to the word "professional" being used. This is not always the case however. There are many, many amateur magicians that are world class and are better than a lot of professional magicians!
