What is Mind Magic?

Mind Magic is the name given to the modern version of mentalism. Mind Magic seems to be more direct and to achieve more astonishing results than traditional mentalism work. The psychological aspect of the tricks is often emphasized. Whereas in the recent past, mentalists would portray themselves as having supernatural powers and other superhuman attributes, these modern Mind Magic specialists such as Derren Brown do not claim to have such abilities. Indeed, they really play up the pscological aspect claiming that the have no specials powers and use techniques that all of us are capable of replicating. However this does not at all seem to be true when you watch their performances!

Derren’s TV Specials

Derren Brown has had a number of TV magic specials. The first one was back in 1999 called 'Derren Brown: Mind Control' which aired on Channel 4 in the United Kingdon. It had a strong reaction from the public and that meant he could produce further shows for the TV station.

Since then his later shows have all been great successes and he even created a stir with his Russian Roulette Special.

This branch of Mind Magic can often seem to border on the paranormal and indeed when you witness the performances live it can really make your hairs stand up on the back of your neck.
